Who’s up for some crazy love in a world full of zombies Walkers? The Walking Dead spinoff, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, apparently is. And while there has been more than one spinoff of the original AMC series, this one stars two fan favorites—Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira)—who are, apparently, in love!
The short sneak peek clip has both Lincoln and Gurira talking up the new series, which AMC also just announced will premiere on AMC and its streaming platform counterpoint, AMC+, in February.
Here’s the show’s official synopsis:
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive–or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?
Some deep stuff going on here! I admit I stopped watching The Walking Dead many, many seasons ago, so I missed the memo if the original series ever made Rick and Michonne an item. Either way, it looks like this show is centered around their relationship and its associated struggles (and also, presumably, trying to survive in an undead world), and we’ll get to see how it all unfolds in the new year.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is executive produced by showrunner Scott M. Gimple, Lincoln, Gurira, Denise Huth and Brian Bockrath. It will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on February 25, 2024.
